Camera Mounting Ring for Pentax M42 Auto Bellows

Does anybody know where I can locate a camera mounting ring for my newly acquired Honeywell Pentax M42 Auto Bellows? The front lens mount end is no problem but the back female camera end is just a hole with a side tightening screw. Thanks in advance for your input.

I doubt you'll find it anywhere except on another unit for parts. It's a fairly simple piece a machine shop or someone with a lathe could make you one. Better yet would be the put a K-mount bayonet on the camera side. I think the diameter is smaller than the later K-mount Auto Bellows (K, M and A) so I don't think they are interchangeable.

Ok, after looking at the part it is possible you could fabricate a substitute using an M42 reverse ring and maybe a couple step up/down ring. Just epoxy the rings together. You'd just have to figure out what size ring has an outside diameter of 42mm (I measure the opening on the back standard of the bellows at about 42mm)..

So you'd want an M42 reverse ring to some filter/step ring with an outside diameter of about 36mm and then a filter/step ring with an outside diameter of 42mm. You can always use filters with the glass removed.

I might have to try this using a K-mount reverse ring. There is some play when using an original Pentax M42 K adapter ring.

Edit: Well maybe not, seems like the smallest filter size they make for these is 49mm. Still I suppose you could step down from 49mm and then up to 42mm. It might add a little extension between the camera and the bellows which would through the ruler scale off but then you might have enough room to rotate the camera body to portrait.

Thanks so much for your suggestions, I have a feeling finding the original part was going to be a daunting task.

I was planning to use a Sony NEX camera with an M42 adapter. (I already own an adapter.) I need another mount for the bellows.

Thanks-

I made a M43 mount in the lathe for the bellows, that places the sensor as close as possible to the bellows to allow use of a 50 mm lens.
I see the native E mount register is 18mm.
The purchased E mount to M42 adaptors will put your sensor on a register of 45.46
If you use the purchased E mount, the minimum collapse will be about 45.46+ minimum bellows (approx 45.46 + 28mm = 75mm)
A 75mm lens might work for macro.
You might have to use a 100 mm lens.

Try a short m42 extention tube with a m42 reverse adapter screwed in the female end. The reverse adapter should fit snuggly in the bellows hole and the screw will tighten to it.

This is a seriously old and smelly Zombie thread. You might want to PM the user. If they are still using the same e-mail address, they may well respond.
