PH-RBD 49mm Lenshood (taking apart?)

The PH-RBD 49mm Lenshood has on the bottom a small part (about 10*15mm) which can take out of the Lenshood. What is the function for taking it apart? The small plastic part has a text on it "open"

It makes it easier for you to access any filters you have on the lens, especially polarizers, which need to be adjusted frequently.

It should be oriented towards the bottom, allowing you to turn the polarizer with your left hand below the lens. In case it wasn't obvious, don't mount the hood such that the hole is on the top, because you can't reach into it easily, and plus sunlight will shine right into your lens.

If you don't have a polarizer or graduated ND filter, there isn't much reason to open the slot, just leave the cover in place.
