K5 and K5 II Batteries

The battery for the K5 II has four contacts. The battery for the K5 has three contacts. Are they interchangeable?

K5 and K5II Batteires

Thanks. I recently purchased a K5 II to move the K5 to backup status. The K5II came with a four contact battery and charger that does not accept the K5 (D-LI90). In lieu of a previous thread discussing battery problems on the K5, I have been reluctant to interchange them.

That helps.

What is the name of this 4-contact Pentax battery? Maybe it is not genuine?

It is genuine. I have both but have only used 4 contact in K5IIs.

Some information here that might help: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-dslr-discussion/182599-question-ab...-contacts.html

All of my batteries have 3 contacts, from k-5, k-01 and k-5IIs. Maybe different standards in different countries?

I just checked and my K5IIs came with a 3 contact battery and charger.

Probably Pentax at some point moved from 3 contact to 4 contact batteries/chargers.

I don't think so.

Both K5IIs bought in Europe and K-01 bought in USA came with 3 contact batteries/chargers.

Folks:
Thanks for your input. I did a little further digging and discovered the following on the Ricoh website link for downloading the latest firmware for the Pentax K-5II and K-5IIs

"Preparation of update
•Blank, formatted SD/SDHC card (32MB or more)
•USB cable I-USB7
If you are copying the firmware update file to the SD card by connecting the camera directly to your computer.
•SD card reader or a computer with a SD card slot.
If you are copying the firmware update file to the SD card using a memory card reader / writer.
•Fully charged battery (D-LI90)
*Be sure to use fully charged battery (D-LI90)"

Consequently, I am concluding that the three contact battery (D-L190) is compatible with the K5, K5II and K5IIs.

It may be that the four contact battery (D-L190P) is compatible with the K-5II and something else completely different.
So, if anyone has both the K5 and K5II (or K-5IIs) I hope this gives some direction.

Thanks again to all.

J.T.

The fourth contact has something to do with safety regulations afaik. The two batteries can still be used interchangeably.
