Weird. During overcast I always go +1 by default.

Ok, thanks for all the replies; I learned some things today.

I'm not unfamiliar with the basics of metering, I just would have expected either the entire image to be underexposed, due to the bright sky, or the tree to be properly exposed and the sky blown out, due to center-weighted metering.

I did take a few other shots of ducks, etc., that were better exposed, so I guess I just need to watch myself under overcast skies.
