Kit lens choice..??

I am about to buy a new K50. I see a kit including 18-55mm plus 50-200mm, and another with 18-135mm. I could also buy a body plus an 18-250mm Trying to decide. (Two lens kit and 18-135mm are all WR.)

I know that the two lens kit (18-55+50-200) is less convenient than the other two options. But it is also considerably less expensive. I also like the two lenses vs the 18-135mm for greater reach. So, I've got greater reach and less cost vs convenience.

The factor that I don't know about - and my question: what about IQ? Any significant differences? (Note: I am NOT publishing, nor selling. This is just fun. But if the difference is noticeable, i want to take that into consideration.)

I like to shoot landscape, architecture, and grandkid's sports, including outdoor soccer.

If I go with the two lens kit, I might get a 50-150mm f2.8 for indoor sports some time in the future.

thoughts on the IQ of these lense? Thanks. Joe

I would recommend getting the 18-135mm over the two lens kit, as the IQ should actually be a bit better where it overlaps. Also, the other lenses have noisy AF, which I'd avoid personally. The 18-135mm, on the other hand, has fast, silent, and reliable AF. Worth the premium IMO, as it's got great resale value.

I have to agree with Adam. The IQ of the 18-135 is a bit better, and you'll usually get a good price on it when bundled with a camera. That said, I'm pretty happy with my copies of the 18-55 & 50-200, although the build quality can vary from lens to lens.

I would vote for the 18-135 as well. My experience is it's IQ is far better than the 18-55 kit. Which 18-250 are you considering? It won't be WR but the Sigma 18-250mm HSM Macro is currently $349 brand new at B&H.

Thanks for the replies. The 18-250 is the Sigma. How is its IQ vs the others?

This is an old but interesting thread specifically for the Sigma: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/10-pentax-slr-lens-discussion/227006-lens-comparison.html

I'll add a vote for the 18-135. And when you want to add some range later on get the new HD 55-300 WR. With that you will have 18 to 300mm in a two lens WR kit. With plenty of overlap so you do not have to change lenses as much. That's what my wife carries all the time, though she has the older SMC version of the 55-300.

I just bought the k-30 and 18-55 (first "real" camera). I really wish I'd gone for the 18-135.

The 18-135 is a better choice for shooting in weather. You wouldn't be inclined to change lenses, and are less likely to have conditions good enough to use 200mm.
