K-30 Exposure Lock issue

Sorry for being such a Noob with regard these smart cameras, im used to actually being able to turn things on and off and having limited options.
OK, im in U1 setup to AV priority Im trying to lock the exposure on something then move the cameras center focal point 4 inches to the left, but the AE Lock button does nothing, What am i doing wrong?

You need to assign the AF/AEL button to lock when it's depressed in your Camera 1st menu through "button Customization". Page. 167 in your manual.... AFAIK that is not a programmable function in your U1 menu.
