Vests - do you wear a vest

I have two photo vests. One is the original Banana Republic Photojournalist Vest, which I totally did not need. I had a K1000 with one lens and MAYBE one extra roll of film to carry. My first one wore out after about five years, so I acquired another.

The other one is an older Tamrac Correspondent's Vest. It is shiny bluish-silvery-grey polished cotton with snaps & straps like a Members Only jacket. It also has shiny black diamond-print PVC reinforcements on some of the pockets. It looks like it belongs in a DEVO video. That's why I bought it.

I promise to wear one of these to a SoCal photo walk.

Do you prefer a longer length?

A short vest with large above-waist pockets big enough for lenses would be interesting, because it would be compatible with a waist pack. But it would look pretty strange.
