If you get chance later, maybe you could post one or two images of your flower shots.

To be honest, almost any lens will work for flower photography, even wide angle lenses. The macro lenses referred to above will allow you to get "real close," while many lenses in the longer focal length range, say 100-135mm, will allow you to make the flower the central subject in the image while blurring the background nicely. Depends on 'how close' you want to get.

Another thing to mention is using your Live View zoom feature as an aide to manually dial in your focus when working with close ups or shooting with manual lenses.
