Tamron - F Lens

Does anyone know anything about a lens that was given to me. It is a Tamron-F 1:2.8 135mm
I have tried to find some info on it but have had little luck.
Can it be used with my K-5? Will I need an adapter? I'm assuming it can only be used in a manual setting.
Is is considered to be a good lens?

Thank You for any info you can provide.

Tamron is a third party lens producer. Meaning they makes lenses for many different types of cameras. It could work on your k-5 or it might be a lens for a Nikon camera. Pictures of the mount and a picture or complete description of the text on the lens would help.

Sorry. Need to clarify. It does have a sticker that says (For Pentax-K) on it.

Should work fine, have you tried to mount it?

No, not yet. I wanted to make sure I wouldn't damage anything. Still learning. Do you know if it is considered to be a good lens?

I have a few Tamron lenses from a similar time, though not a 135mm, I like them. They were one of the better third party manufacturers at the time and their BBAR coatings were pretty good.

in that case the short answer is yes it will work. One of the nice things about Pentax is that if it's k-mount it will work.

However, there are a few things to be aware of:
  1. Some lenses have an extra pin called a 'Ricoh' pin that can cause problems by getting stuck on the camera. These usually have a KR, K-KR, or K-R type of designation. Seriously doubt this is an issue for you
  2. Some lenses have an extra large aperture lever shield that will not allow the lens to mount on a newer camera with SDM contacts. Again, not likely in your case.
  3. The lens will only have the abilities it had before, so if it is a manual focus lens, it's still manual focus. If it is a manual exposure lens it's still manual
So if you can provide pictures or the complete text then someone can give you a better idea of the capabilities of the lens, but in short: it will work. Put it on and try it out.
