I love my 55-300 DA L. Would rather have the newer WR version but will leave that for the future.
If you aren't in a hurry watch in your area for a used SMC Pentax-FA 100-300mm F4.7-5.8......if you get lucky you should be able to pick one up for under $100 and I enjoy mine a bunch. It also has an aperture ring, so you can use it with cheap teleconverters....a fun lens for learning and playing with reach....

I did just win a 100-300 vivitar lens on ebay ( for $32) so I have something to play with while I put aside the cash for the 55-300.
