Vivitar 5200

Happy New Year all,

I am following up on an issue I raised a few months back about my old Vivitar flash and my K30. I dug out the flash and confirmed that it is a Vivitar 5200 with zoom thyristor. According to my research, the trigger voltage is around 9 volts. Does anyone know whether it is safe to use withy K30? I really don't have the budget for a new flash at the moment and would love to use this unit because it worked so well with my old ME Super back in the day.

Argggg! It would be so nice if Pentax would publish the safe flash voltage for their cameras, but they don't. My "known safe" Sigma measures at 4.5v. Reports on the Web vary with the highest reported safe threshold being 25v.

Most reports I have read indicate you are fine at 12v and below. But as Steve says no one but Pentax really knows and it might not be the same with all cameras.
