Sstrange LV noises. [K-30]

I generally love this camera, but today I tried with Pentax A 50mm f1.7 and it made horrid noises like something is cutting lose in the body in the live-view. The only reason I used live view is because focus confirmation was just horrid with the 50mm. is that normal?!

I figured i still have 300mm from my vivitar set as focal point distance... but still, when i changed it back to 50mm it still made some odd noises i don't think I heard before.

Turning shake reduction off completely killed the noises off.

Why is LV using shake reduction anyway? Should I get my camera checked?

This is normal. There are many threads describing the same experience.

Normal for the SR to be active in LV and for it to make clunking sounds.

K-30 probably has the option to have SR on 100% of the time in LV, or only at moment of capture. Or does it not?

Have to check through settings.

Thanks for answers everybody.

I'm so happy to be a part of the whole Pentax experience.

Yep, that's the sound of the sensor moving around to compensate for the camera body movements. You move the camera left and the sensor moves right. It's all powered by electromagnetic from what I was told. If it "clunks" then that is the sensor hitting a hard limit of movement. A physical stop. Totally normal.

But yes, it does sound kind of wonky when you hear it for the first time.

I'm not sure why using live view should shut off shake reduction, it doesn't. However if you are using live view on a tripod you should use a remote of a 2 second delay, both of which disable shake reduction.

On the newer models (not sure about the K-30, but I would assume it has this option) you can set SR to two options for live view: 100% of the time (meaning you'll see it stabilized on the LCD), or at the moment of capture only. So you get it for the shot either way, but the former mode makes a lot of noise (the latter makes no noise) and uses up the battery faster so it can be nice to turn it off...
