Reduction of pixel dimension

I want to enter monthly photo contest, but my images are too large in pixel count. Can anyone give me some advice on how to modify/reduce dimensions to satisfy photo contest requirements? Thanks in advance.

Either open a Flickr (or other photo sharing account) and post a link here for the contest or use software to resize the image before uploading.

Lightroom, Photoshop, Faststone, Irfanview and many others will do the resize.

Flickr might be better if you intend to post lots of pictures.

Picasa can do a resize for you, and is free.

Great. Actually already had Flikr acctg which I used. I put the URL of the Flkr photo in my Forum post, but you still have to click on the URL to see the photo. Is there a way to make the actual photo appear in the Forum post rather than the reader having to click on the URL? Thanks for your patience and assistance.

To post directly, pick up the BB code on the Flickr image. There is a detailed explanation by Adam on the forum somewhere.

Flickr has a lot of ways to bring up the "sharing" options. Here a box pops up when I put the mouse over the "monitor with arrow coming out of it" icon that's now purple. You want the "Grab the HTML/BB Code option". Pick a size, select all the code and copy it. Then paste it into a reply window here, just as plain text - don't use the Insert Image option.

That code gives you a titled image that people can click on to go to Flickr for other sizes or images in your stream, like this:

What he said except make sure to grab the BB code not the HTML. I think you have to tick that box but it remembers your choice.
