Hmmm, I get a clicking sound when it works!

Any other info? Camera seems to power up normally, etc? Does it sound like the shutter is moving, or the mirror is moving, or neither?

Which make / type of batteries? Do you have another set to test? Batteries (even the best ones) don't have eternal life.

The fact that certain things work does not mean that the batteries are still ok. Take a car battery; you might still be able to listen to the radio with it while you're not able to start it. In which case the battery is not ok.

Just saying

You'll probably spend much more fixing it than you will replacing it. you can get another K100D for around $125 USD.

One circumstance I had with similar syptoms: my K-r was in Catch -in (trap) focus mode without my realising it. If thats on, then the shutter won't fire if the camera doesn't think is in focus. Check your settings, check if st happens when you hold the shutter button down and focus manually. If you were using an AF lens in any case then this doesn't really apply.

In any case go right thorough the set up menu and checK everything looks Ok.

Reboot? The only way I know of to do a "reboot" is a firmware update, definiitely try that. Eventually if nothing works then the conclusion is another electrical device with a glitch somewhere, who knows where, main ICB, sub component...

I second not economical to repair in that case: even if a replacement ICB/part was available. DIY job for s/o really keen basically, get another k100 off ebay spares/repairs...

But FYI
