I'm afraid I have to disagree with the lens separation theory.

It looks more like residue left by over-zealous application of lens cleaning fluid that has seeped in and under the front element.

I am not sure I would end the auction and give it to the highest bidder. I might end the auction and send messages to the bidders letting them know you are relisting the item with an updated description due to new developments with the lens.

If you update the auction listing they are free to cancel their bids if they wish. You might want to send the bidders a message as well to cover yourself completely.

What do you want out of it? I wouldn't mind seeing what a better copy of that lens would do, mine was stuck wide open and had fungus, but showed potential.

I don't really want anything out of it. It came in a bundle with other goodies, so I didn't (and still don't) have any interest in it. When I foolhardily thought it was in good condition, I listed it for as low as $0.99. Now that I discovered the problem and already cancelled the auction, I just feel like giving it away. Interested?

Looks like aluminium corrosion growing across the lens to me, and maybe eating away at the coating.
Of course I could be wrong.

I'm interested, I need it like I need another hole in my head, but I'm curious to see how a functional one performs.

Are you just looking for someone to cover shipping costs?

I'd try taking some photos with it and seeing if it actually effect the photos.

It will definitely have *very* little effect on the photos - separation is located in the area where lens has sort of blind spot - not to mention that it will not affect anything apart from flare resistance - so I would simple list it as used and show the photos and add a good description. It is still a usable lens - or someone might want to buy it for spares - for example having other copy with good front element and bad mechanics or nasty inside - the it would make a perfect copy just swapping the front element. --manntax
