K-30 acting up with lithium batteries

Greetings

I love the fact that my K-30 can accept AA batteries when the rechargeable battery is dead but the weirdest thing happens when I put brand new ultimate lithium batteries in. The camera works for a minute or so and then I get a message that the batteries are depleted! The camera just stops working. I remove the AAs, put back the d-li109 and shot what I can. When the D-Li is really dead I put AAs again, this time everythings fine!?! I get 1000 clicks or so out of these! Twice it's done that to me. Has anyone else have the same issue? I've got 1.04 firmware version, AA battery type is on "Li".

Regards

Are you using the authentic Pentax D-BH109 AA battery holder with the gold contacts, or are you using a cheap Chinese knockoff AA holder?

Try changing the battery type to lithium instead of auto?

Maybe they have a funny initial voltage drop. I'm pulling at straws here, not positive.

Thanks tomwil and link81 for your replies. The battery type is on lithium, I may change it to auto next time just to see,

I would also make sure the contacts have no residue on them. Maybe try cleaning them with rubbing alcohol and let them dry?

Have you tried the same adaptor with other battery types? Does the camera behave the same?

@VoiceofReason, @link81, good ideas I'll give them a go and see what happens next time, many thanks.
@Pepe Le Pew, did duracell make the move for aa lithium? My K-x didn't last long on alkalines so I haven't touched those in a while.
Thanks

I've experienced the same thing as SunValley when I pop in some alkaline AAs with the adapter. Specifying the battery type in the menu seems to get it working. I haven't tried using my Enloops with it.

I use Lithium with K-30 frequently while traveling, always on AUTO , have both Pentax and $3.50 made in china adaptors and never had a problem.
Can always take 1000+ clicks , my traveling is through warm and hot countries, maybe it was cold weather, in Canada can get very cold.
I remember I did have some AA problems years ago while using K-x in very cold weather.
