Ouch! That's painful looking. EBay another one for $120-150ish?

A couple of options in the 50-ish range. On the high end, either an FA 43 or DA *55 would be really nice lenses, but of course quite a bit pricier than the lens that has "gone away." You could also look for a FA 50 f1.4 or F50 f1.4. FA 50 is still available new. It has a metal mount, but the lens itself is pretty plasticky. Still, it is nice and probably a little sturdier than the DA 50.

Good luck!

well, I bit the bullet and picked up a used DA 35mm Macro on eBay from Japan for $388 total. This should make for a nice kit. Still not sure what to do with the 50mm f/1.8. I have no idea what it would cost to repair, but if it were much more that $60 total (including shipping) I probably wouldn't bother. I wonder what such a lens "for parts" goes on eBay???

If you bought it with a credit card you might check if you have a damage protection clause. My daughter knocked my brand new K10 off the counter when it was a few days old. My credit card company paid for the $300 repair.

Well, you could post more data mining or some pictures. The data mining, while very interesting from a statistical viewpoint, makes my head spin. I'd rather just look at pictures & see which lens makes pictures that I like best.

Sorry for your bounced lens, your right I think it's totalled, but on the positive side you get to choose another lens or two...

Honestly, the only images I trust are images that are printed on photo-quality paper.
Basically, if it doesn't look good in print, then IMHO, it is not a good photo.
It is a sad fact: Too many "well liked" web images never translate into print.
The web is, like video, its own medium, independent of print photography.

I am a print photographer. And I will die a print photographer.

YMMV.

seems the replacement part is available directly from Ricoh parts department: "41287.0M10701 Lens Mount is $6.72 ea. and are in stock."

So all may not be lost after all. When I have it all back together I'll let you know how it went.

Well, after ordering the $5 part directly from Pentax parts in Colorado (and a bit of micro surgery), I now have a working 50mm f/1.8!!! Yay!

Oh that's great!

I had a similar issue with my Sigma 28-105mm Zoom, that I got with my first camera ever. It fell down from my bike and the plastic mount was shattered, just a year into use. It was only years later (heck, it made me give up photography for a few years!) when I ordered a replacement from Sigma UK. I think I payed little over £20, if I recall correctly.

How did you order that part, when it appears Ricoh/Pentax has stopped selling parts to consumers? :
