You shouldn't have to buy the official Pentax cable, as long as you get the correct connectors on each end. I like the card reader option. Either way, try to make it a routine, so you always follow the correct steps. Then you always get the photos from camera to computer and have an empty card back in the camera for the next shoot.

Since the thread title mentions Lightroom, I have two LR tips for importing photos. One is to set up LR in the Import module to make a second copy of each image on your computer. It makes more sense if the second copy is on a separate hard drive. I leave the second copies as an archived backup. The next tip is if you shoot RAW. I use the "Copy as DNG" option, which as it says underneath "converts to DNG in a new location and adds to catalog". The reason behind that is the Adobe DNG converter has to have a working RAW image file to convert. If your card is corrupted, you will know instantly, when you still have time to repair the card. Some programs will show the embedded JPG preview instead, which fools you into thinking your file is fine.

There is no best way. Both ways work (as long as your computer supports the card )
I prefer cable as there is less chance to damage the card contacts in the camera (call me paranoid) but the disadvantage is that it drains the camera battery a little faster. Others prefer card readers.
Thankyou Sterretje.
