You can try experimenting with the bleach bypass custom image setting in the camera. Perhaps set the contrast to 0, high/low key to +1 or +2 and try out different hue settings.

You can also combine with the "retro" filter effect, perhaps turn off the white border.

The "reversal film" custom image setting is also quite similar to slide film.

Or you can try out in-camera cross processing, such as this, a jpeg straight out of the camera:

Sorry, in my opinion, saying that you like the look of film is just not good enough.

Which film? Bluey Agfa? Greeny Velvia? If Kodak, do you prefer smooth colourful Kodachrome 25 or starker Ektachrome 64? Tri X or Ilford 64?

Try to analyse what exactly you like about the way film uses light, colour, contrast and sharpness and you will be amazed at how easy it is to replicate the effect using digital. The only problem is translating your requirements into the terminology of the software you use, but that needn't take very long, and lots of PP programs have fun presets and filters to tinker with. I do think some of the industry standard software is jargonistic and elitist though, Adobe is a culprit here.

Try picasa or Faststone for free and easy digital play, and maybe relabel the sliders in your mind. For example, the green slider could be relabeled Velvia +/- (I disliked Velvia for its exaggerated landscapes). In b&w the contrast slider could have TriX at the soft end and Ilford at the sharp end...
