K20 firing randomly

My K20 fires randomly and have to under expose by 2.5 to get properly exposed pics.

Checked everything with buddy who has same camera.

Boiled down to body?

What are my options?

Cheers

Doug

I had a similar issue with a K-5. Mirror box motor - $274.

You can get another K-20 or newer used body in the marketplace for that.

Does the shutter fire without the release being pressed or are you having exposure problems or are you having both problems? If you have spontaneous shutter release, that would require a repair. Inaccurate exposure might be something we can help with.

Shutter release is intermittent

shutter releases intermittently
pressing any button
over exposure at neutral setting when under exposed by 2.5 it is corrected

i believe body is malfunctioning

Dumb question but how old is the battery? Weak worn out batteries can make electronics do dumb things.

The question was not whether the battery was charged, but how old is the battery. Lithium cells have a limited lifetime regardless of how carefully they are used. With age they lose the ability to take a full charge and also to deliver full voltage.

I agree that it is likely that your camera has sustained some damage that is causing the shutter issue, though bad power should probably be ruled out before tossing the camera.
