Hotshoe flash piece missing, what do I do please?

I had a tear in my camera bag which the hot shoe kept rubbing against. Now the top metal bit of where my flash gun would have gone upon my K30 camera has gone. This has worried me a bit as I got a new camera bag, the old one kept catching on my hot shoe which was on the top of the camera.

I went to Castle cameras and they told me that it would cost me £80 to repair! Please can you tell me if this is serious?

I don’t use a flash gun anyway as I use the built in one if I need to. I have now ordered a hot shoe cover which should help.

Show us a picture of the damage.
There is another post where a member showed how he replaced the hot shoe on his camera that had fallen off but he still had the part.
Do you still have the metal piece you speak of?
It may be possible to just put some gaffer tape over it but I believe the screws come up from underneath so they migh loose in the camera?

I cant find the metal bit, just got three silver dots ontop the camera. I'll have to use my compact to take a shot.

i have checked the thread and this is what happened to me. i am not messing about with it, i don't use the flash anyway except for the built in one. I hope it just doesn't effect the rest of the camera.

Looks like a missing spring, should not be a big deal.
edit: like this A323.
