Worth repairing a film SLR?

Hello,

I own a Pentax K-r and a Pentax MZ-7. I intended to use the DA 18-55 lens for wide angle landscape photography with the film camera. The negatives are very sharp and the pictures look good on paper. Unfortunately the MZ-7 stopped working. I can get it repaired for about 80 $.

So here is my question:

If I don't want to invest in a wide angle zoom lens, what is the better solution: getting the MZ-7 repaired, or buying a wide angle converter for the DA 18-55 lens?

Regards,
TF

I moved your thread because it will get far more response here than in the ask B&H section.

Do you want to continue to shoot film? If so, get it repaired. If not don't. Simple as that.

But please don't waste your money on a wide angle converter. Invest in a DA 16-45 or one of the Samyang wide angles (14mm or 16mm), or even the 8mm fisheye.

Can you be more specific?
Mirror motor plastic gear broke? (there are new metal replacements)
Shutter stuck? (needs CLA)
Mirror stuck in up position?(needs CLA)

If this is a question, then
Most likely yes. Contact Eric Hendrickson at Pentax Repairs here for a quote:

I put new seals in my MX. It's a classic. My K2DMD is going to Eric. It's also a classic.

Other cameras get binned at first significant fault. They're so cheap.

If it would of been a classic, repairing it would of been worth... but for an MZ-7 it will be cheaper to just buy another body than repair it... and keep on shooting film.
