Pentax k5 & fa 50mm 1.4 not working

Do I have to have my camera on certain settings for this lens to work? I tried auto, program, av, manual. Flash on & off, the camera is in af mode. I just got the lens but all the photos are white....completely white

Is the aperture ring set to "A"? If so, please attach some samples straight out-of-camera so that we can see the EXIF.

It should work just like the DA lenses as long as the aperture ring is in the A position. If the ring is on A and it still isn't working properly the contacts might be dirty.

I hit panic mode, but I'm still confused. It works great when I have the aperture ring set to A. When I set the aperture ring to say 2.8 I am getting a white photo. I tried manual and auto mode. The photo is there ya just can't see it bc it's white

Leave it on A, the camera needs to know the aperture for all metering modes to work, including P-TTL metering for the flash. Without the lens on A the flash is firing full power every time. Control the aperture from the camera body, just like you do with a DA lens.
