k 5 freezes up

Two different times i was focusing on an object up close and my k 5 froze up. The monitor went black but the LCD panel stayed on but nothing would change. Both times i had to take the battery out to turn it off and restart.Any suggestions?
I didn't see anything on this.
Thanks, Mark

I just posted another thread with pretty much the same issue... Check it out, let me know if it matches the problem you're having.

It's a known issue. Removing and replacing the battery usually clears it up. You lose the last shot, though.

There are threads about it somewhere in the K-5 sub-forum.

My K20 used to freeze randomly when I first got it. It became more frequent the longer I had it. Sent it in to C.R.I.S. just before the warranty ran out and they replaced the main board. Haven't had any freeze ups since. This may not apply to your camera, but you may want to keep it in mind. If it keeps happening, send it in before the warranty runs out, at the very least they'll give it a good cleaning!
