Compatible lenses for the K-30

Hello Fellow Forum Members,

I am a new K-30 camera user who wants to purchase a macro lens that will not bust my budget. In scouting around I found the SMC Pentax 50mm F4 Macro, an older lens (1977-1984) that is within my price range and it has good reviews.

Big question: will this old lens fit onto my K-30 body with or without adjustments? Please give me some handholding advice.

Thanks a million for your considerations!

Yes, all old Pentax lenses will work with the K-30, although a manual metering procedure is required for M and K lenses. You can read more about the different lens series here:
Pentax K-Mount Lenses Explained: The differences between various Pentax lens series

For hand-holding I would recommend at least an A-series lens, such as the A 50mm F2.8 macro, as it would make metering much easier. Then you'd also get 1:1 magnification, as opposed to 1:2 from the M 50mm F4.

Here's a link to the lens:

Welcome to the Forum Stefano.
You can use any lens from the old Takumars to the newest DA lens and then some.
Have fun

I hate confusing, but remember there are 2 Pentax mounts the K mount and the much older M42 which some secondhand places still refer to as "Pentax mount". The K mount is a bayonet fitting and the M42 is screw fitting. I was once confused 30 years ago, but I've now got the hang of it.

In order to use the M42 screw mount lenses on a K mount body, you need a M42 to K mount adapter. There are many around, however the best is the original Pentax version because it maintains the ability to focus the lens to infinity.
