Camera Firmware update help with Mac

Still having trouble both with Pentax K5 ll and my Ricoh GR. The downloaded updates will not transfer/enter the formatted sd card.

Never had this problem before when updating my original K5 until I updated my Mac to 10.6.8

Is the card formatted on camera or computer? Should be a simple file transfer so if the computer can transfer image files back and forth then there should be no problem moving the .bin files for the update.

I would make sure you can transfer other files first, the problem may be unrelated to the firmware update.

So can you transfer files to the card from the computer?

No. Other files will not slide on the card either and the card is not locked. So any idea where the trouble could be?

Might be a "permissions" problem. Follow the instruction here - http://guides.macrumors.com/Repairing_Permissions

I though of that but could not find in the 'Mac preferences' so I will try the link you sent and report back latter on.

I would try formatting the card on the computer and then testing. It could be a bad card. Or it could be a Mac thing....

Select the SD card icon and right click => get info. In the Get Info window see if you have write permissions. If not, click the lock item, authenticate and adjust.

It says " you can only read ".

I think it should say " you can read and write "

Not sure how to change permission

No, if you want to write to the card from your computer, you need 'write' permissions. Click the lock button, give your password when asked, and then change it.

Actually, there should be a little check box on the bottom of the get info window that says "ignore permissions on this volume". It should be checked. That is probably the more 'correct' solution.

I too am using a Mac.
If you have 'read only' permissions on your card, you'll not be able to write to it. I've given you information how to fix it.
