k-x possessed focus button

i have a k-x dslr and took it on a trip over the weekend and discovered the focus button has gone bonkers. i have it set to autofocus and when you try to press the button half way to AF it just immediately takes a picture at the lightest hint of a touch. it will not AF it just starts taking pictures no matter how gently you try and press it.

it does this in both the manual mode and the auto picture mode. i found a reset button in one of the menus to restore the camera to default settings and that did not help.

my husband thinks maybe i hit the camera or something and somehow broke the button and need to replace the button.

i had my SIL look at it because she is a professional photographer and uses a pentax and she couldnt figure it out either.

any thoughts?
