It would help us to help you if you listed the steps you are taking and where exactly you are having difficulty...

The update procedure is the same for both cameras. Here's our firmware update guide:

I am folowing the instructions found at RICOH IMAGING COMPANY website but when I turn the camera on while holding the menu button down with the sd card with the update, all I get is the current version installed.I have reformatted the card and re-downloaded the update several times with the same result. I did not have this problem with the k2000 .

Make sure you are either downloading or copying the .bin file to the card Root directory not the DCIM folder otherwise the camera will not recognize it.

DOKI....read the updates and see if any of them would be significant enough to you to warrant doing the update. If so then care fully follow the instructions and do so to the newest one. On every camera I have ever owned I have always updated when when they came out, others may suggest not doing it, so there is two trains of thought on updating. The ultimate decision is yours and how current you feel you would like to keep your camera.

I don't know what a bin file is. The fw update down loads as a Application (.EXE) file.

Problem solved, I downloaded the update from a different link. It downloaded as a bin file and worked perfectly. Ricoch's site downloads as a Application (.EXE) file, which I was struggling with.
