Can't get files off pc without corrupting !

Hi Guys,
I've spent hours and hours trying to get pics of an event to a client.
Shot in DNG and converted to jpg (using faststone) they are all normal and viewable on my win7 pc.

copied to usb drive so I can edit on my other pc (winxp) with a better screen,
they are all, RAW and jpg, reduced to lines and blocks of colours...
I tried moving them on an SD card and also on a HD...same result.
All my other images are normal .

Tried copying using windows explorer in case faststone was doing something to them.
same result.

Driven nuts by this, can't afford another day of frustration !
any help much appreciated
Pete

What filesystem is the USB drive using? FAT32 should work with all operating systems. Trying formatting the drive to that and see if it helps.

Thanks Adam.
Yes it's FAT32, but the seagate HD and SD card transfere do it too

On further attempts, it seems that about half of any files RAW or jpg I copy to ANY usb drive
is corrupted. Is this an operating system error ?

I have had trouble with files converted by Faststone as well. I never go to the bottom of it however, so can't really offer a solution apart from using other conversion methods. (in-camera or Photoshop Elements)

Well, if they look fine on your Win7 PC viewed directly from the USB drive yet they are corrupted when viewing in WindowsXP my first through is 'which program are you viewing them with' on the XP machine?

I've been using Faststone Image viewer for a number of years and never had any problems at all, so I doubt it's anything to do with FS.
Another possibility is your Windows XP USB drivers are fubar, or the mb southbridge is dodgy, the RAM is faulty or XP is sick.

Cheers Steve, yes I've not had issues with FS, using up to date version on both machines.
Thought I'd try shutting down win7 rather than the perpetual standby and all seems ok again now.
Oh well all this frustration has got me trying something apart from FS
Zoner is getting a run atm and seems ok
Thanks for the help

Glad you got it figured out. We had a flurry of FS-related issues a month or so ago.
