K-5II Dust Removal Not Working

I just noticed that the dust removal feature is not working on my K-5II. I have it set to turn on on startup, and nothing happens.
I tried manually triggering it, the dust removal screen comes on, but there is no vibration from the camera. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

The dust removal is ultrasonic in the K-5, and thus almost inaudible. You need to put your ear to the camera to be able to hear it, and it will still be rather faint.

Cheaper (and older) cameras have the original DR system (as opposed to DR II in the K-7/K-5/K-3) which actually shakes the whole sensor using the SR system, and is thus pretty loud. These cameras include the K10D, K20D, K200D, K-30, K-50, K-500, K-r, and K-x.

It's (nearly) ultrasonic on Pentax dslrs ever since the K-7. If your hearing is good, you can put your ear to the camera and hear a high pitched buzz. But you won't physically feel it like on the older cameras which made a definite clunking sound.

Perhaps for the flagship models, otherwise not.
Buy a K-50 if you want to be sure the startup dust removal works, it sounds [and feels] like the entire innards are bashing against the inside of the chassis. Most disconcerting.

Sounds even worse when it's sitting on a table surface

Good to know. I could have sworn the dust removal action was similar to my K-r, but it must be my senility acting up again.

Same with the K-x. It's like a paint shaker. Never any doubt that it is working.
