lr44 batteries in Pentax MX and Nikon F2

There is a warning on Wikipedia not to use LR44 type for Silver Oxide batteries as used in the above cameras..
'Performance of a device meant to use a silver-oxide battery may be degraded with substitution of LR44 types.'
LR44 battery - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Silver Oxide is available here.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Duracell-Electronics-357-303-Batteries/dp/B000J657TE...oxide+duracell

I may have just discovered why my Nikon F2 reading are out since I changed batteries.

LR44 are compatible, but suffer from a shorter lifetime and decrease in voltage near end-of-life. Silver cells, on the other hand, last much longer and have consistent voltage. Silver cells are always preferred unless you have an emergency.

This thread is a reminder to check the batteries-Thanks Columb (Coulomb perhaps here ?)

In the Pentax MX the Energizer EPX79 cells about 2 years old.
They are down to 1.37 Volt per cell. Too low and time to replace now

In the Ricoh KR-5 the Energizer EPX76 cells are less than 1 year old, and still measuring 1.58 Volt per cell.

Thanks for that. My Nikon F2 photomic head is probably playing up. [ But my Pentax MX , bought new in 1975'ish , works perfectly.]
