Pentax K5 Silver

Just a question for pentax fans here, how is the review for Pentax k5? I never own a DSLR before. However being said that, I have knowledge on how to handle a DSLR because I use to work as a media coordinator and that is part of my jobscope.

There is a sale going on for Pentax K5, maybe its time for me to pick up my first DSLR!

Thanks! Looking forward to good/bad reviews and tips!

It's a great camera, built for people who know how to get the most from the controls. It's not the newest model, so don't overpay. You should be able to buy a used one for around $500 (for base model, silver is more), as a benchmark. I use a K5 and have been impressed with its capability and ruggedness.

The only real place it lags behind the competition is autofocus for fast situations, but if you know how it works you can easily work with it.

Thanks for the feedback! Yes, currently there's a sale for a brand new Pentax k-5 at approx 700USD. Good deal?

That's not a good deal. You could get a brand-new K5ii (second generation) for the same price at Adorama or B&H Photo.

It's a brand new K5 silver? That is unusual, but it's a premium for cosmetics.

Welcome to the forums! I think you will be happy with that K-5 and 40mm lens! The lens isn't really "stock", its (i assume) DA 40mm, which is a very nice, sharp lens with fast AF and rich colours. It came in a special silver finish with the silver K-5, so its not quite common. Great for closeups, landscapes and everyday photography. If you got the silver XS version, it is even more rare, and if I remember right its the thinnest lens for this format on the planet.
By the way, this forum has a number of useful features, like the:
- Camera review section
- Lens review section
- Sample photo search

These are mostly done by users here, so keep that in mind, but there are also in-depth reviews.
