The Pentax HD PENTAX-DA AF Rear Converter 1.4X AW

I'm thinking about buying the converter to use with my Pentax 55-300 zoom (also with 100 macro). Have not found any reviews with this combination. Is this a good idea or should I be looking at the Sigma 150-500 zoom?

55-300 will be marginal for af with the tc. Should work, just expect some hunting. Pentax says it is for f/4 or faster lens.

I would recommend picking up a 150-500mm rather than using a TC with the 55-300mm. The image quality will probably be better, and you'll get more reliable AF.

I agree with Adam about using a TC with the 55-300. It just won't do it. The 55-300 at 300 already hunts badly. It won't focus at all with a TC on it. I CAN see, however, using one with the macro 100. You would have an autofocusing 140mm 1.4:1 macro lens. It should have few problems focusing at f/4. For extra distance to flying things I don't care to get close to, such as wasps, I have used my AFA 1.7X on my M 100/4. It's a bit dark in there, but the image quality is fine.
