Live View question

Hi, sorry if this seems a silly question but I can't find the answer in the manual can you actually take a photo when in Live View using a pentax k-5. I have tried but all is does is make a few clicks but no photo is taken. Is live view just for viewing?

thanks in advance

Yes, you can certainly take a photo. The shutter will sound a little different but images are captured in the same way (via the shutter release button).

Thank you Adam. then either there's something wrong with my camera as it's never took photos in live view or there's a setting I haven't applied to make it work.. could you tell me if I have to do anything?

thanks

There is no specific setting. When in live view (activated by hitting the LV button on the back), half press the shutter to autofocus, then, when focus is achieved, press the button all the way.

Do you have a card in the camera? If so, check if the card is locked.

Regarding focusing, that could have been disabled in the menu. Ensure that it is enabled: 5th page in the record menu, item Button Customization, sub-menu item Shutter Button Half Press: Should be set to Enable AF.

I assume that the focusing switch is set to AF.S.

Do you have set it to the for an example to the centre point option? (live view AF settings is different than OVF one.)
