K 500 Battery Dying Nearly Immediatley

I purchased a k 500 in April. The batteries that came with the camera lasted up until this month. I have replaced the batteries twice and they have depleted the same day. Roughly 10 pictures taken each time. Is there a certain type of battery I should be using? I have used Duracel AA batteries. Do they make a rechargeable battery for this camera, and would I be better off with it? Thanks

Try using lithium batteries by Energizer of Duracell. If you're still experiencing the fast drain, then you've got a short in the camera that's draining the batteries.

+!
The other option is the rechargeable Sanyo eneloops, you'll probably only find them online.

Yes and yes. The battery model to get is the D-Li109:
Pentax Rechargeable Li-Ion Battery D-Li109 for The KR 39066 B&H

Did it not come with a Pentax rechargeable battery and charger?

The K-500 ships with 4 AA single-use lithium batteries. The D-LI109 lithium rechargeable and charger are available as an optional accessory.

With the rechargeable battery and charger coming to $80; I'm seriously reconsidering getting the K500, and instead getting the K50 that includes the rechargeable battery/recharger. Plus the K50 is WR. Seems to be a better option. ??

A lot depends on how much you are wanting to spend and how you are planning on using the camera. The two cameras are very closely spec'ed. You might want to note that the K-50 requires an optional adapter to use AA batteries (about $35 USD). I personally consider the WR and viewfinder focus point indicators to be very important and worth the extra money.
