K5 hot shoe flash incompatibilities?

I've been using a PENTAX specific Promaster 7000m flash on my k100 for a few years. Normal pentax short comings but no big issues. This past week I got myself a K-5 and trying it with the 7000m today got me ZILCH. It will not fire when on the hot shoe.
I'm not sure if I'm missing something obvious or if pentax changed something in the hot shoe circuitry but this flash will not trigger no matter what. I've tried some older single VIV 2500s that fire just fine.
I've read something about reverse polarity flashes not working but not sure if this is pertinent to this unit.
Any one know what's going on?

edit:
tried all modes on camera dial and flash and always under 180 shutter

I'm not familiar with that flash but a couple of thoughts:
Have you tested the flash on another camera, the k100d perhaps? Possible the flash has died or the batteries are bad or inserted wrong.
Does the flash work with the test button?
Does a different flash work on the k-5? Maybe the hotshoe is defective?

No reason it should not work on the k-5. Both cameras are P-TTL so nothing should have changed.

Yes, the flash works with test button and on k100.
The vivitar 2500(x2) flashes both work on the k5 and k100 but like I said, those are single(center) pin. The promaster is a 4 pin pentax shoe.
It works in wireless with triggers, without triggers.
It's got me stumped.

Check the seating of the flash on the hot shoe. I no longer have a k-5 but if I remember right you had to be careful to push the flash all the way in for it seat properly. Make sure the lock knob or lever is fully retracted then see if the front of the flash hot shoe goes all the forward to the front of the camera hot shoe.

Other than that, I'm stumped too.

Your K5 speaks a different flash language than the Promaster 7000m. A new Promaster FL1 will talk to both. My Pentax AF400FTZ works with my IstD but not with my K10. A new Pentax flash talks to both.

I had a K-5 and a Sigma 530 S. The connection never work directly, but works very well if I use a dedicated cable. I also had a Metz flash, which works well connected directly. I don't know why this was happening. Now I have a K-5IIs, and the Sigma flash works well, connected directly.

Wish this flash had a PC plug.
Thanks guys. I guess I'll look for a new flash or just use this one off shoe.
