Yes, that looks about right for the kit lens wide open at 55mm. That's what you get. As others have said, it needs to be stopped down.

At 45mm it's still a pretty good lens, but I'd get a DA 35 2.4 as a cheap way to get some sharper looking flower pictures. It's not close to being a macro but focuses close enough for flowers.

Not the greatest picture but you'll get the idea.

It's different to shoot flower!

I did compared them together, the WR kit lens beats that funky lens hands down! :P

I got a flea in one ear about it in another thread, so I'm asking here...
18-55 WR on a K-01, bad picture quality at close range, is my lens a dud or is this normal performance?
At 55mm and f/5.6 the DA18-55 WR should be better than this - reasonably sharp except for slightly softish corners.

Did you have a UV filter on it ? It does not like filters.

Should be like so :

Nope, no filters...
But yours is in shade, I could get good pictures in shade... problem arise when the subject is in direct sunlight...
Anyway, I found, thanks to the fine suggestions here, that stopping down about a 1 1/2 stop gives the best compromise in terms of sharpness/difrraction
And thx for the tip on filters!
