Shipping advice please

USA seller, potential buyer from New Zealand.

Parcel weighs 24 pounds

US Postal Service cheapest (online) is $135

Last time I checked, private carriers were even higher.

Am I missing something regarding affordable shipping please? Or is that just the way it is?

Thank you

That is similar to what I have found.
On top of that, there is a chance the buyer will have to pay an import duty.
This greatly diminishes the perceived value of buying goods from America.

I would suggest you ask your buyer to get a quote using the New Zealand Post 'Youshop' service. See https://www.nzpost.co.nz/tools/youshop/youshop-pricing
They quote NZ$12.50 per parcel and NZ$4.75 per 500g. At 24 pounds weight that would be 10.886kg, so NZ117. (Or about US$150.)

On second thought, that's no good - I think you've found the best option!

I often overhear the UPS clerks telling people shipping overseas to go to DLS. Don't know if there's one near you but apparently they're the cheapest.

I shipped a kodak digital back (for a nikon n90s) to New Zealand a few years back and it was nearly $100 to ship.

I've tried a few others - All are per your price or substantially more.

Yes, the buyer may have to pay a duty (under $1K is free to OZ, don't know about NZ), but they should know that beforehand.

I have found IPS to be the cheapest shipper, thus far:

Ahh, yes, good catch!

DLS is a worldwide shipper, but are a freight carrier, not package delivery service.

That is because the private carriers include customs brokering with their shipping so that they can meet their service standards for target delivery times.
