Is buying a red camera vain or silly?

When I buy my K-50, it will be because it is an excellent camera, especially for the price.

But I have been toying with the idea of buying it in red if Adorama gets it back in stock soon.

I think the red looks kinda cool but is it really just being vain or even silly?

The purpose of a camera is to enable you to take great photos so is making it "extra pretty" misguided?

What do you folks think?

I bought a blue K-30 just because I liked it better than a standard black . So If you like the red one I say go for it.

Yep, I also say go for the red! It's neither vain nor silly; rather simply having what you like!

I think you should get what you want -- and not care about what other people think. If you like the look of your camera, it will probably endear you even more to it, and you'll get more involved with it. In my previous hobby, I was a custom PC builder. Lots of money spent on water cooling gear, tools to cut cases, paint, LED light strips -- not to mention all of the expensive hardware that goes inside. I've had a cover on CPU Magazine, and have had features in other issues. But so many of my friends would ask me, "Why don't you just get the basic black Dell box with the same hardware inside?" I would just say that the basic black box bored the pants off of me, and modding the cases was kind of an artistic release. A red K-50 could be the exact same thing for you. We already know it's a capable camera (I have a black/white K-50) -- so you end up winning on both counts

The reason I bought my K30 was because it is blue.

It has not yet directly led to any dates so far. That is okay because it still looks awesome.

The purpose of clothing is to keep you warm and protected. So is wearing something "fashionable" misguided?

The problemas that i found with colored cameras is... when you bought a new one everyone especially your wife knows that you expend a lot in a new camera

My first DSLR was a Red K-x. I bought it red because it was the same price as a black one but way cooler.

The purpose of an auto is to get you places, when you buy one do you choose the color or just take whatever they give you?

I've got a black K-30, I bought a red K-50 because I like it. I wanted a different color on just to easily distinguish them, a friend that I shoot with sometimes has a white one, I bought my son a red one but he lives two states away. I really liked the look of that red one, so I went with it. I'd love to add a gun metal K-3 to the group.

Just make sure it doesn't clash with your restored red Thunderbird.

Buy whatever color you want... There's absolutely nothing wrong with a Red camera if a Red camera is what You want. They come in different colors for a reason and the color doesn't make it any less of a camera.

I'll wager most people have shoes far more flamboyant than a red camera. So, no, not vain.
