Thoughts on Sigma 24-70 2.8

Looking for a walk around lens. I've reaseached all the lenses in the range, but without having the funds to actually try them all, it's making it a tough choice.

I'm upgrading from a k5 to a k3 and my current lenses are the 15mm limited, 18-55 non wr, 50mm 1.8 and the tamron 70-200 2.8.

Thoughts on replacing the kit lens with the 24-70? I've also been seriously looking at the 18-135 due to kit pricing on the k3. The new 16-85 peaked my interest, but since carrying the 15mm around is so easy, I'm not sure I need it, or any of the shorter f2.8 zooms like the 16-50's.

The HSM version, or the older screwdrive version?

If you feel good enough with the 15mm limited as your really wide, then the 24-70 would be a winner. Throw in a macro lens (for my taste ), and that's a pretty rockin' kit you'll have.

I looked into it once but didn't like the bulk of the 24-70. Other options are da21 plus a 28-75, or just give in and get the 20-40 LimiZoom like me .. that would fit nicely between your 15 and 50.

for the IQ, this Tamron 28-75 is a killer, and it's not as expensive as the sigma 24-70 (half the price !!!)

i have the older version and its a very good lens but it is big and heavy(so is the newer one). if you dont mind that then id say go for it.
for a walkaround lens, you want something which is relatively light too so for me only 2 come to mind. the 18-135 is the first one and then the sigma 17-70 is a close second. cant really comment on the 16-85 yet

Thanks for all the replies! I think after pouring over test photos my best option is to save the money and go with the bundled 18-135. Then next year I'll hopefully be in a position to pick up the 31mm to fill the gap as far as image quality and speed go.
