more SDM problem

i have the 60-250 DA* it has been to the shop in Arizona once to have the SDM replaced and now a little over a year later its starting to fail again. i have seen some posts about converting the SDM lenses to screw drive. is it possible and if it is is there any information on how to do it it or where it can be done. i have been very disappointed in these lenses. i saved and bought 5 of them over a 4 year period and three of them have been to the shop twice and now if i have to get this one repaired it will be for the third time for it. i will give Ricoh/Pentax credit they have been good to help with the cost of the repairs but i just don't think i can go to the well again on this.

I have two SDM lenses (55 and 300) and my brother had the 50-135 and non encountered any problems at all. That sounds terribly unlucky

Here is a thread with extensive discussion of conversion from SDM to screw drive.

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/10-pentax-slr-lens-discussion/208353-how-...m-f-2-8-a.html

I do not recall seeing there a discussion of the 60-250 but it may be in this long, detailed and very helpful thread. You will get plenty of help if you post your question to that thread.

I also have 5 SDM lenses and treasure each of them. I had my 60-250 repaired under warranty and so far it is working perfectly. I am not sure if I would convert if it failed again but I sympathize with your concerns about more failure so I would suggest going to this thread for help.

Also having SDM failure issues

After almost two years of usage, about the first week of October the SDM in my DA* 16-50 stopped working. Fortunately I had purchased an additional 3 yr. Square Trade Warranty for it. It has been repaired and returned.

Two weeks after the 16-50 failed the SDM in my DA* 300 failed. It is still under the Ricoh/Pentax 1 yr warranty and is currently on its way back to me from Precision Camera in Enfield, CT where it was just repaired.

I also own the DA* 55, 50-135 and the 60-250. I would say that the 50-135 gets used more than the others and so far (knock on wood) I have had no problem with it or the 55 or 60-250.
