Ricoh XR-10

Picked up this camera, fitted new batteries and find that it works splendidly....but...it has a digital dateback that doesn't appear to work.
I've never had a camera with one of them before.
Is there anything I'm supposed to do to turn it on ?
The display is just blank.

Also, what is the button "BC" for ?
The manual for the camera has no instructions for the dateback.

I found instruction booklets for it, but does not tell how to set up the data back. Good luck.

I thought that Butkus might have the manual for this one, but he did not
Just looking at the back, it appears all you have to do is set the clock.

"BC" is the battery check. I would assume that the slider controls what you see in the rear display and also puts the back into clock set mode. It appears to support a stop watch as well as the other functions. Translation? It is a day/date/stopwatch device on the back that will also imprint to the film...assuming the battery is good.

And assuming the battery is good, it probably has a Y2K bug...

I would assume that the Data Back has it's own button cell battery.

Might be the same as this.

Yeah that figures. lol
Something as obvious as battery check, no wonder I didn't think of it.

BINGO !!!
You hit the nail right on the head.
I though it might have been picking up power from the 2 contacts (circled red). Yet there it is staring me right in the face, a screw with a head slot big enough for a coin, but I didn't see it. My excuse : just getting over a bad virus and it has certainly knocked a few brain cells around.

All good now
Thanks all.

I guess the ASA control makes the numbers brighter or darker for different film sensitivities.
