K100D firmware

Good day from South Africa.
I have just acquired a well cared for K100D. This shows firmware 1.0, and does not see any card bigger than 2Gb. I have downloaded the v1.02 FW file and copied it to an 8Gb card as per instructions, but when I start the camera while pressing Menu button, it only shows Ver 1.0 and let me set time etc, then shows Mem Card Error!
Any help would be appreciated! ( the download file only shows Windows platforms up to XP. I tried it on Windows 8. On the MAC, Stuffit seems to also have a problem with this file)

Have you tried updating the firmware using a 2gb card? Also, make sure the firmware is in the root directory of the card.

I think you have to start with a 2Gb or less memory card. I think your operating system will automatically format cards over 2Gb with the FAT32 file system. The camera with firmware 1.0 won't understand that. The best solution is to use a small-capacity card. The instructions say Mb, not Gb.
