You never delete in-camera. The camera's built-in computer's file manager isn't that good. You format instead.

Where to format is a highly prickly matter. Almost all photographers tell you to do it in-camera and never with a computer. I don't see any difference. I work as a computer systems administrator to be able to buy old M42 lenses. FAT16 in the camera is exactly the same FAT16 in the computer. It should not matter.
