Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4 DC Macro HSM-C and Lightroom

Hi There,

I was wondering if anyone else has had issues with the Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4 DC Macro HSM-C and Lightroom, When I have a look at my photos in LR the Lens shows up as Unkown, is there a way around this?

Cheers,
Adam

Same with the Sigma 35mm f1.4. The information is in the RAW file (exiftool sees it), but lightroom doesn't interpret it.

I'd suggest making a preset that adds the camera profile. It's much less work than fumbling through the menu.

Just the explanation, no solution.

The problem is your Lightroom. The camera stores the lens ID (just a number, retrieved from the lens) in the exif and it's up to the viewing / post processing software to do the interpretation to a text string.

The ID is supposed to be unique (in this case it probably is), but Sigma might also decide to borrow (steal might be a better word) an existing ID (as an example that of a Pentax 17-70) in which case your Lightroom will tell you that photo was taken with a Pentax 17-70.

Is there a way to "label" lenses like this so that LR recognizes them? I've had a few cases where I switched from a 10-20 and a 17-70. Since there was overlap, I sometimes had trouble remembering which one I used.
