I managed to remove the mount from the lens. It looks like it's working, but there is a problem with focus and zoom ring. The focus ring is hard to turn while the zoom is fine.
When I mount it to my k-5IIs, it zooms while focusing, like it's got power zoom or something.

With this type of problem that may be an indication of why the camera's mount was still attached, sounds like it has been dropped ripping the lens off the camera. Hows the focus, Does it seem off at all?

Sounds lie a damaged helical. Unfortunately, a repair on that is probably more than an 18-55 lens would be worth. Might make a good donor lens for one with a cracked front element or similar.

[Got this lens in a trade, obviously mount is damaged. Not sure if I can return it]

If this was a major part of the trade, I would certainly contact the seller & ask to return it for a refund. If it was just "thrown in" as a bonus, then no. The seller obviously did not disclose that this lens was damaged.

It locks focus fine, it's not off. The problem is that while focusing it moves the zoom ring as well. Oh well, I'll just open it and try to learn more about how lenses work

I could return it, but I would have to pay for shipping. It's not really valuable, and I would not miss the opportunity to dissect a lens - never done that before.

The DA 18-55mm AL II has a link for disassembly. It may be useful.

I suppose you could use the lens for reverse stacking too.

Focus adds zoom? Obvious mount fail? Send it back.

You traded for the weakest broken lens in the list.

Sell it with the title of "Converted to power zoom".

j/k

Find another broken lens and see if you can make 1 good lens from 2 bad ones.
