Horrible Story and need Help !!

Hello All,

Recently bought a lovely Me Super from a Member here. Lovely condition and perfect.

So, I came across another Me Super on EBAY, Cheap, with a 50mm 1.7 lens.

Top cover was a bit scratched up, but no matter , it was to be a "Project" fix up camera.

During reassembly , replacing the top cover, I reattached the Back . My Next step was to reassemble the rewind assembly.

Nature called and went to the Bathroom.

My lovely Daughter, here on a visit, shouts through the Bathroom door , "Dad, you left your Camera open, I closed it to keep the dust out ".

How do I open it ? . Mechanism not in place.

Please help if you can, Thanks

Well, I have a dead ME Super body here.
I just annealed a blunt thin scalpel blade on the gas stove and bent it to various shapes.
No success because the shape it needs to be to catch on the claw, can not be inserted through the gap between the back and the body.
Also the force needed to push up the claw is quite high, would to bend the blade and scrape the finish.

Thanks for all the suggestions , find it a little hard to think logically when a "little" upset !!.

Yes, she meant well and I'm always whining about the Dust here.

I'll finish the Roll of film in the other one, I can then stare at the open back seeking inspiration !!

I've got some expanding tweezers, but don't think they'll be strong enough.

Once Calm, hopefully I can up with something. But please, any brilliant thoughts, let me know.

I don't have one in front of me to look at, but couldn't you just remove the hinge and get in that way?

This happened to me. As long as the spring and catch are assembled, you'll be okay. The film door release knob works by pulling up on a component that rests next to the knob shaft. When this happened to me, I bent a paperclip (as was suggested above) and used it to catch the release and then opened the back by pulling up. The only tricky part is catching the release. It's actually not hard at all, though.

One way to prevent this in the future is to put a piece of masking tape over the catches on the camera's body. Then the door can't be shut until you remove the masking tape.

It appears that there is a little locking screw on the hinge, accessible only when the door is open.

Maybe Fiddler can find a full service manual.

Thank you all so much, you all tripped my Grey Matter enough so that a Crochet Needle/Pin , whatever they call them was used.

What absolutely wonderful Tool that is.

I suspect Daughters Mom will be "losing" a few of the little Darlings .

Dreadful Picture, but hey, otherwise I'm a very happy camper right now

Yep! That would work! Just drop it down the center of the shaft and hook the opening to pull up!

Really glad you found a solution! Hey, you can always take up knitting in your spare time, now that you'll be collecting the needles!

Lol, Are you trying to "Pull the Wool" over my eyes ?.

Yes, so glad it popped open so easily. That feeling of Dread as the realisation hits, "How do I open it", is not a good feeling.

Much like locking your keys in the Car, but worse. Can't call AAA to sort it out.
