Just got K-3 back from repair...

So I just had my K-3 serviced by Precision for the "mirror flap" issue.
I cannot report yet whether or not this is fixed but in the meantime something else has come up.

No matter what lens I attach to the body, if I gently attempt to rotate the lens back and forth (even though it is locked, there is a very small amount of movement) the LCD screen blanks out (i.e. it goes black). This is true for my DA* 60-250mm as well as my Limiteds.

I did a quick search on Google but didn't come up with any good discussions -- but I have to believe that this has indeed been discussed before.
Appreciate your thoughts.

Michael

I would check to see if the lens mount is screwed down securely.

I would be sending that puppy back with a note that something is terribly wrong.

That don't sound right. I've jiggled my k-3 and lens before and never encountered such an issue.

As said: check mount bolts for tighness. If problem continues, try calling and reporting problem immediately. Then, pack and send back.

But before packing, try to recreated the mirror flop problem, just for piece of mind.

Let us know your findings and final outcome.

the screws were just a VERY tiny bit "not quite fully tight" -- so I lightly tightened them. Precision says they upgraded the K-3 to firmware v 1.11 (but I am 100% sure I verified that it was v1.11 prior to shipping to them). They said they readjusted things and it appears that my lenses are now in focus with no micro adjustment necessary -- need to verify this. I have not extensively tested the repaired camera with regard to mirror flopping. Until I am 100% satisfied, I will continue to hold onto this camera until I can say with confidence it is fixed or not. This other "black LCD screen" issue may or may not be related. It also might be related to the Pentax battery grip as I have not had any issues with "black LCD screens" without it. At the moment, there simply are too many variables and I need to be more methodical to try to isolate the behaviors. More later.

You may want to check the tightness of the two gold contacts that transmit lens and AF info, both on the lens and on the mount. If the one that carries the lens info is intermittent all kinds of weird stuff ensues.

That firmware bit is common to their repairs. My K-50 also had been "upgraded" to latest firmware despite already having it when mine was in for repair. I think they just do a firmware refresh with latest as part of their normal process.
