Even if the problems discussed there turn out not to be the same as yours, in may help in other situations.

Me too

Hi everyone,

I have just bought a K-50 body also. I did not buy a lens as I already have a iSTds with the Pentax 18-55mm lens and a Sigma 70-300mm. I also have a Pentax Optio RZ18 camera. I have been using the Optio a while as the pictures are excellent. The iS has been for more formal use, so I bought the K-50 to use the original lenses in conjunction with the iS. Now I too am very concerned the K-50 has what I can only describe as a "bloom" around the edges in all photos, the definition is what I would expect from a very cheap camera. The little Optio is far superior in definition......my son has a Canon Eos and his pics are way better for sharpness and clarity...
What is going on? I have tried all the settings and variations, and with a tripod so my conclusion is that the K-50 is simply no good.
I would love someone to prove me wrong on this other wise I am going to Ebay the lot and buy Canon (except the little Optio).

cheers

Post one or more sample pictures with EXIF intact.

Sounds like the effect of a very cheap lens, not camera. A sample pic with exif data intact would be helpful

I assume your main issue is the purpleish color on the right. That's indeed mainly the lens his fault.
Don't forget that the jump from the 6mp ist to the 16mp k-50 is massive and reveals the faults in lenses you otherwise wouldn't have noticed. Pentax revised the kit lens for later models to keep up with the higher resolution.

Also the use of (dirty) filters can greatly reduce image quality, especially in these kind of situations (shooting into the light).

looks fine to me, just the purple fringing in the edges that is typical of cheap lenses. Upgrade to the new 16-85mm and watch your face go from to

Thanks Guy's

A second (or third opinion) is always valuable. If I had thought it out Pentax (Ricoh) would probably make a lens that was just good enough for 6mp...I mean why make a 16mp lens for a 6mp camera?
Looks as though I will have to think of way of justifying a new lens to the boss (she has not twigged yet that I have two Pentax's that look similar)!.

One last question... 16-85 or the PENTAX DA 18-135mm F/3.5-5.6 ED AL [IF] DC WR ?

cheers

The 16-85 seems to be fantastic optically. Looks like a real winner of a lens for pentax. The 18-135 gives you more reach, if you need that, but is not great optically. My vote would be the 16-85

Thanks

I guess that is the price difference reason...Oh well I will just have to plot and plan for one.

Thanks to everyone again.
