You guys are the bomb-diggety!! The link on focal length was extremely helpful. It was great to have a visual comparison as well.

AND - what can I say about the document on Exposure!!?? Thank you so much for sharing this. I've printed it out and have highlighted (geek, I know! ).

Now - you guys have gotten me interested in the 50mm 1.4 (or possibly 1.7). I have another question. The *ist DL has a K mount (I'm pretty sure). I found some affordable lenses on eBay, but it looks like it's for "film" cameras, but also has the K mount. Can I interchange the two?

Thanks again for answering my continuing questions...

Terri

I would suggest you read the book titled "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson.
A great resource to understand the basics, which really just entails the exposure triad of aperture (lens opening size), shutter speed (how long the light is allowed to be exposed on the sensor) and sensitivity (of the sensor to light).

This is essential to get the most out of your photography. You would then have the creative licence to see your subject and capture it as you want to see it. All the best in that, and keep shooting!

Terri,

All K-mount lenses will work on your Pentax camera, but you'll need to use M mode for M lenses and Av (or M) mode on A lenses using the A setting on the lens. That's where getting a handle on the Av, Tv and ISO settings helps.

Thanks, everyone! Russ, the links you gave me were great. THe one I found most useful was in that batch - "How to Choose Your Second Lens." Pentax Poke, I liked your links as well. All very useful! I feel like I know so much more than I did this time yesterday!

Thanks to everyone's opinion. I think I'm going to go with the 50mm, though I'm still deciding between 1.4 and 1.8.

Terri
